The Ubuntu Edge to artificial intelligence in Hollywood — The Friday 5

For the Friday 5, we’d like to share a few updates from the week that we wouldn’t want you to miss.

1. Ubuntu Edge is now $695

Originally listed on Indiegogo for $830, the Ubuntu Edge price has dropped as it tries to beat the clock to reach its $32 mil. goal by August 21st. Canonical has also added 15 more devices to the 100 phones for $80,000 Enterprise bundles, in hopes that more businesses will follow first Enterprise investor Bloomberg LP. With only 13 days left to reach full funding, keep an eye on that progress bar — it’s going to be tight race!

2. Lab Grown Burger Gets a Taste Test

After two years, a burger that was grown in a petri-dish was tasted by 3 individuals, and despite bland reviews taste-wise, the burger has generated a ton of excitement about the future of technology and cultured meat. Sergey Brin, one of the founders of Google, paid for the project.

3. What’s new with Firefox 23

Mozilla launched the 23rd version of Firefox on both Android and desktop. The new features, such as share features, smoother scrolling, and auto-complete,  greatly improve user and developer experience for both versions.

4. Her

Check out this recently released trailer for ‘Her,’ a movie by Spike Jonze. It’s a story about artificial intelligence, love, and technology’s impact on life.

5. Unboxing Xbox One

The Xbox One isn’t available until November, but this video of the unboxing by Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, director of programming for Microsoft’s Xbox division, gives you something to get excited about.
