1. Tidal makes waves
People love streaming music. More importantly, people love streaming music for free. This week Jay Z, with support from artists like Beyonce and Madonna, announced Tidal, a new player entering the streaming music game. But this one boasts a hefty price tag. The platform is hoping that the high definition sound quality will make up the difference in cost for users.
2. Amazon Dash Button
The days of the dreaded last roll of toilet paper may be over. Amazon has taken convenience one step further with its new tiny hardware button that instantly reorders products from the e-commerce giant. The Dash Button is Wi-Fi enabled, and be adhered to any surface, and is branded with the product that will be delivered in 2 days once pressed (think a Tide-branded button stuck on the washing machine).
3. Ford Dynamic Shuttle
The future of transportation has put pressure on automakers to react and evolve quicker than ever before—Ford has taken an interesting approach. This week Ford introduced its Dynamic Shuttle experiment, which is an app-based ride-sharing service powered by Ford vehicles. It’s off to the races against the likes of Uber and Lyft.
4. Periscope levels up
Week-old Periscope has released its first update—one that aims to fix users’ issues with notification bombardment and irrelevant streams. Things are looking up for Periscope with its quick responses to user problems and requests, and Twitter is enjoying the praise as the new app’s user base grows.
5. This is Spartan
This week Microsoft released a preview of Project Spartan, its future replacement of Internet Explorer. Virtual assistant Cortana will be available in the preview, as well as the ability to annotate web pages with a pen, among other new features. When and how Project Spartan will overtake Internet Explorer on Windows 10 is still up in the air.
