Opportunity

When CONCACAF (the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) and US Soccer approached Punchkick to imagine a mobile experience for the Copa America Centenario, they came with a few fundamental goals in mind. They wanted to capture fans’ imaginations across Central and South America, and demonstrate to American sports lovers that there's more than one 'football' they'd enjoy.

They wanted to bring a comfortable and familiar experience to fans traveling with their teams internationally, giving them tools to navigate American host cities. And finally, the client wanted to give fans a soccer experience they'd never forget, as rare and memorable as the centennial tournament deserved.

Solutions & Results

The core driving idea behind our approach to the Copa America Centenario app was that we didn't want to serve up the same scores and schedules that users could get from anywhere.

We needed differentiated features that would encourage soccer fans to download the new app rather than relying on common existing sports apps like ESPN for information about the tournament. With that emphasis on novelty and utility in mind, we worked toward developing features in a few major themes: personalization, atomic content, and contextually.

A user-first approach allowed Punchkick to reinvent expectations for a sports app.
