Amazon Enters Streaming Video Box Arena With Fire TV

Amazon is coming in hot with their newest device, Fire TV. Made available today, the small, compact box comes with an impressive list of features. A major selling point for the device is voice control—users can speak into the remote to complete searches, putting the days of complicated text entry in the past.

The specs are brag-worthy: 3x the processing power of competitors like Apple TV and Roku, Advanced Streaming and Prediction (ASAP) that learns viewing habits so user favorites are ready to watch at any time, and a ridiculous 2 GB of memory (compared to the usual 512 MB.) Fire TV comes stacked with tons of content like Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, Showtime, ESPN, as well as games, music applications, and kid-friendly Amazon FreeTime.

In this multi-screen world, users expect—if not demand—the ability to share content seamlessly from one device to another. Fire TV does not disappoint. Mirror capability allows users to share what’s on their personal screen with the entire room. Additionally, users can ‘fling’ the content from a Second Screen enabled tablet to the Fire TV and still be able to continue using the handheld for other tasks.
